Focusing on the intersection of gender and health, Johnson examines processes and constructions of the medical gaze and the various inequalities this gaze perpetuates in American society across time.

Victoria E. Rankin, Ph.D., is a sociology lecturer at UNC Charlotte. Dr. Rankin earned her Ph.D. in sociology from the University of Virginia and specializes in equity in education, social inequality, parent engagement, and the sociology of education. Prior to joining UNC Charlotte in 2017, Dr.
